Especially, it chronicles the psychic investigation of the house, in April, by Barbara Keel, one of New Zealand’s foremost mediums. The investigation reveals a secret that has been buried for forty years, something tragic and horrifying that brings shame and grief to many residents of The Garden City. The investigation also leads to a shocking incident in its quiet and peaceful streets. In the wake of that incident, the world’s media descends on Christchurch. 29 Argyle Drive is christened, “The Hell House”, and the place where evidence of the tragedy was found, “The Hell Hole”.While people obsessive about such things kept the topic alive on the internet – with theories of a conspiracy by Christchurch police to cover up the true nature of what had happened- and with esoteric discussions about the nature of “spiritual” as opposed to “demonic” possession – the general public eventually grows tired of it all- and the reporters and the camera crews go back to where they came from. But what had been in the house, whatever its nature, was still there and it shows itself again in December, 2010, with another brutal incident as horrific as the one in April.

The media flocks back. This time, the headlines read: “Jack’s House” and “Jack Lives Here”.But the cameras return to a far less friendly city.In September, a severe earthquake had robbed the citizens of Christchurch of their peace of mind. Although the quake caused almost no loss of life, the aftershocks continue, traumatizing the population, leaving it resentful at becoming again the center of a media frenzy. The people are sustained through those months of daily and violent aftershocks by the old adage that lightning never strikes twice in the same space.

That would be unthinkable. But the unthinkable happens. The story has been a tale of the occult, but it ends as a requiem for the people of Christchurch and the real terror that befell the city on February 22, 2011.
