Books with little children as the main character always get to me, especially when the children get in horrible situations and dont know how awful the world is. It reminded me of another book, Room by Emma Donoghue, even though this is set in Sweden, and I really loved Room.It is about 8-years old Mia whose mother has just married. Mia has never met her biological father and dislikes this new man of her mothers but she cant do anything about the situation. Her stepdad is an alcoholic and they have to move around a lot because of that. Sometimes theres not enough money for food.Mias childhood is terrible and touching and because of the fact that shes just 8 years old she doesnt always understand why or how things happen around her.

She falls in love with one of her teachers, her mother gets pregnant several times, her granddad dies and she can barely get to the funeral because she doesnt have any shoes.Although this book was written in the 30:s it is very easily read. I liked the complex characters and their different stories and minds, everything is so interesting through a childs eyes.

Sometimes the story is a bit dull when not much is happening in Mias life but I still enjoyed this read very much.
